The Leather Worm

You know lots of people are pretty scornful about fishing magazines saying they are full of adverts for tackle companies and are not worth the money - but occasionally they throw up a real gem. This month's copy of Trout Fisherman (Feburary) is a case in point. The world of stillwater trout fishing always move on apace and the competition guys are always looking for ways of getting an edge on everyone else. Anyway these guys were fishing a small Welsh stillwater with strips of chamois leather and doing rather well. I have been a fan of the Apps bloodworm and caught plenty of fish on it and have recently tried the soft rubber worms so I was keen to give  the leather worms a go.
I tied a few up on size 10 Kamasan B175 hooks and they are easy peasy to tie. A bit of lead wire a gold bead and some tan tying thead completed the job.

I was keen to give them a try and decided on fishing them three foot under a home made indicator on my club stillwater. We all know what chamois leather is like when it's wet - well it is a consistency that the trout can't get enough of. When they take it is with a fierce confidence and they don't let go. I have taken 10 trout in 2 short sessions so far - give 'em a go !!
