My usual pike rig

This is the pike rig I usually use on rivers and stillwaters

Main Line

55 lb power pro - if my bait gets snagged up the hook points will bend before the line snaps allowing the hook to come free. It will do this with any hooks that are not labelled as extra strong. For pike welfare it is not a good idea to leave a bait in the water containing two trebles for a pike to gorge.

Stopknot

14lb drennan powergum

Float

Fox stubby slider extra large

Two rubber beads either side of an enterprise snag safe lead clip ( if the lead snags the clip breaks with a pull of about 20 lb )

Below this is a large Gemini snood clip - these are brilliant !!! it is so easy to unhook your wire trace and get your rod out of the way ready to unhook the pike.

Knot to Gemini clip is a 5 turn grinner or uni knot - never let me down.

Pike trace

I make my own with 30 lb wire and size 4 semi barbless hooks - it is so easy to unhook pike if you use semi barbless - the one hook with a barb on each treble goes into the bait. I often use bait flags as an attractor but they can be used to keep your bait on better if you are casting a good distance. Also notice the bottom treble is no further than half way towards the head of the bait - this helps to prevent deep hooking the pike as does an early strike after the float starts to move.
