Black lures for coloured water

Went down to my club lake on 7 Dec as the local flooding in the North of England has put an end to most of the river fishing for the time being. The lake was heavily coloured and at least a foot above normal levels. I tried a few tactics on the first walk around until I hit on the best way. As so often is the case a black lure was successful in the coloured water.
The rainbow trout were rounding up the fry in quite small areas so a mobile approach was productive and once you found the fish they were happy to oblige. I managed half a dozen fish one of which I took home for tea. I lost a similar number that managed to get off on the way in. Maybe I need to invest in a hook sharpener.
